Section 3: Steps to make routable map with OSM data:

6. Zoom in to see more detail and select menu Tools - Generate Routing Nodes - at Coinciding Nodes of Polylines.

7. The routing nodes are generated. You can verify routing nodes at intersection of roads and correct them if neccessary. Here is the meaning of routing node colors:

Blue routing node: routing node with no intersection
Yellow routing node: routing node with intersection of 2 roads
Green routing node: routing node with intersection of 3 roads
Purple routing node: routing node with intersection of 4 or more roads
Red routing node: routing node with errors

8. Select menu File - Save Map As..., then select Polish format in Save as type and click Save to save the map.

9. If you do correctly, your C:\osm2vgps\mkgmap folder will look like this:

10. Congratulation! You have just created a routable map for Buenos Aires. You can download VGPSBlueBuenosAires here to try AutoRouting within Buenos Aires map on your phone. To create routable map for other city, you can repeat this tutorial, replace Buenos Aires with other city. You need to send the file 63240001.mp to us. We will make your routable map work on your phone.


A note about what you can do with the file 63240001.mp:

The file 63240001.mp contains street map data and routing node data in vector format. Here is 3 possible things you can do with the file:

a. If you are normal mobile phone user and just want to use this street map on your phone, you can send the file 63240001.mp to us to make it work on your phone. Before sending the file to us, you can read FAQ for more detail.

b. If you are OpenStreetMap user, you can use the file 63240001.mp to check mapping errors in OSM data of your area. Pay attention to the blue routing nodes. Blue routing node is the node that has no intersection, so if you see blue routing node at T junction or Y junction of streets, then it is probably there is a mapping error at that T or Y junction. You need to login to OSM with your OSM user account and use OSM editor to correct the mistake.

c. If you are j2me developer, you can buy J2ME GPS source code template from www.j2megps.com to develop your own GPS and/or mobile map/mobile routing application with the vector street map data that you have in the file 63240001.mp. You can get some concept idea from www.digitalmobilemap.com
