Making Routable Map With OSM Data

Section 2: Steps to process OSM data:

We need JDK 5.0 or higher installed in your PC to process OSM data. You can ignore step 1 and step 2 if you already have JDK 5.0 or higher installed in your PC.

1. If you don't have JDK 5.0 in your PC, you can get it from the Sun web site. Download "JDK 5.0 Update 12" from here Download JDK 5.0 Update 12

2. install JDK 5.0 to c:\program files\java\jdk1.5.0_12 folder in your PC.

3. Create following folders in your hard disk:

C:\osm2vgps

C:\osm2vgps\mapedit

C:\osm2vgps\mkgmap

4. Download mapedit.rar here or get the latest version from http://www.geopainting.com and unzip it into C:\osm2vgps\mapedit folder. Your mapedit folder will look like this:

5. Download mkgmap.rar here or get the latest version from mkgmap-latest.tar.gz and unzip it into C:\osm2vgps\mkgmap folder.

6. Put the file map.osm from section 1 into C:\osm2vgps\mkgmap folder. If you  do correctly, you mkgmap folder will look like this:

3. At command line, key in java -jar mkgmap.jar --mapname=63240001 --description=BuenosAires map.osm.

4. Wait for a while, a file 6324001.img will be generated.
