I really like Google Maps for Android, but why do all these smartphone commercials or info videos have those identical “I’m so happy, gonna take a hell of a leak now”-jingles?!

The previous version of Google Maps had an option in labs to pre cache any area as long as it was shown. The new version removes removes the option to do so in Labs and adds a solid option to save an entire location. ‘It does not however support all countries. This poses a big problem here. This is just artificial limitation at this point. I cant pre cache any area of the city I live in now.

As awesome as this is, I wish g-maps for Android would allow me to push modified routes from g-maps on desktop to it without killing my modifications to the route.

This is not available for all countries. Please bring back the Precache Map Area feature.

@web4ss it then defaults to a “paper map” app. you know…in the days before gps and turn by turn and searching on the go. If you are going to a different country and wont have service this is your backup just in case.

One thing Google could add is if they at least highlight the name of the street you’re looking for. They obviously save the street names for offline use, so why not give us the ability to look that up? Looking at the offline map won’t help me if I’m on a lengthy trip and have no idea where to look.

Wait do I have to actually go to My Places > Offline > Then click the map I want to use the offline version or will the regular map use data downloaded on the phone too?

This isn’t any different from the offline mode when it was in beta. Still can’t get offline directions.
