Galaxy Nexus Android Beam Demo
Android Beam: With Galaxy Nexus you can now easily share contacts, websites, apps, maps, directions and YouTube videos to other people close by. Simply hold two NFC enabled Android phones close to each other and touch to beam and share. Google’s already embraced NFC for mobile payments, and it’s now ready to do some sharing as well. That comes in the form of the new Android Beam feature for Ice Cream Sandwich, which the company just announced at its joint event with Samsung in Hong Kong. Much like HP’s ill-fated Touch-to-share functionality, it will let you simply tap two NFC-enabled devices together to share a piece of information. That will work with a range of apps and services in Android, including YouTube videos, contact information, maps, web pages, and even links to apps in the Android Market. What’s more, Google also announced that the SDK is available for download today

*cough*MINECRAFTFTW*cough* Android beam looks cool, but I don’t see that much difference from share via bluetooth.
nfc services already came out in Korea 2 years ago
I used to review phones like you. Then i took an arrow in the knee.
nice mobile machine
@ismaeldeltoro There are already sharing options that don’t use NFC (like Bump) but these are less streamlined. And I think you’re forgetting that the close proximity is BY DESIGN. NFC is a multifaceted, instantaneous information transfer system. If it had a wider range, then it would be all the easier for people to take advantage of the technology. I want to touch my phone to an NFC plate to pay for my groceries, but I don’t want to end up picking up spam just by passing someone on the street.
@ismaeldeltoro uhh no. google will always be better. its not androids fault the devices need to touch… its the NFC radio. a different company/ technology…. sooooo dont talk shit if you dont know your facts :]
@ismaeldeltoro
If you had bothered to listen carefully, he did mention that there are many other possibilities to android beam than just merely sharing files… ‘backward move’? ROFL
Google is always first at technology ideas. Only that Apple will always be there to find a better way of doing so. Believe me. Apple will have a beamlike effect next iPhone but you won’t have to put both devices together just to share contacts.
I find it a backward move for google since you can actually share files via bluetooth 10 meters away.
